December Marathons in Central Florida

With the holiday season approaching, the irresistible feasting opportunities that include hearty meats, decadent sweets, and succulent eats become more of a reality each day. Such a plentiful smorgasbord of food makes it hard to stay committed to an exercise regimen in the last month of the year. Fortunately, Orlando offers holiday foodies a great opportunity to get in shape during the window between Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Here are a few Track Shack-sponsored Central Florida marathons that can help you stay fit between the feasts this December.

OUC Orlando Half Marathon

As a significant part of Orlando history since 1977, the OUC Orlando Half Marathon takes over 5,000 runners through a winding and scenic route in beautiful downtown Orlando. This year, the OUC Orlando Half Marathon is offering a three-year medal series for runners, walkers, and medal collectors to enjoy.

Each medal of the Hometown Half Medal Series will feature iconic Orlando landmarks such as:
• 2019 – The Lake Eola Fountain
• 2020 – The Lake Eola Swan
• 2021 – The Lake Eola Amphitheater

By registering early for the next three OUC Orlando Half Marathons, participants in the series can earn a bonus medal in 2021 that features all three icons. Runners interested in collecting the first of four Hometown Half Series medals will meet at the starting line at 7:30 a.m. on December 7, 2019.

Deadlines and Entry Fees:

• September 30, 2019 (Deadline to get name on bib) – $90
• October 1 through November 16, 2019 – $100
• November 17 through December 7, 2019 – $110

Lake Eola 5k

Sharing the same Robinson Street finish line as its sister race, the OUC Orlando Half Marathon, the Lake Eola 5k starts at 7:40 a.m. on Saturday, December 7 and follows a shorter course north of Lake Eola. Both races will finish with a party along Lake Eola with beers, massages, and live music.

Deadlines and Entry Fees:

• September 30, 2019 (Deadline to get name on bib) – $33
• October 1 through November 16, 2019 – $38
• November 17 through December 7, 2019 – $42

Virtual 5k or Half Marathon

Those who cannot make it downtown for the race can participate virtually and receive a t-shirt and medal for $38. All races benefit the Track Shack Youth Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization that helps fund youth athletic programs in Central Florida.

Reindeer Run
Held on December 14, 2019 inside SeaWorld Orlando, the Greg Warmoth Reindeer Run presented by AdventHealth for Children has provided locals and visitors alike with a fun run in the sun for over 20 years. The three mile Reindeer Run starts at 7:15 a.m., while walkers start at 7:25 a.m. In support of Toys for Tots, runners are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the park.

The event offers fun, family-friendly treats and highlights including:

• Complimentary viewing areas for spectators and family members
• Cookie Cutter Medals
• Appearances by Rudolph and friends
• Free Rudolph Run for kids starting at 8:30 a.m.

There will also be a Rosen Hotels & Resorts Holiday Costume Contest at 9:15 a.m. that awards the most creative holiday attire. The adult winner will receive a two-night stay and dinner at Rosen Hotels & Resorts, while the child and group winners receive SeaWorld tickets.

Deadlines and Entry Fees:

• November 30, 2019 – $32
• December 1 through December 13, 2019 – $35
• December 14, 2019 – $38
