Family-Friendly Valentine’s Day Ideas

Family at hotel holding red valentine hearts over their eyes

Most Valentine’s Day ideas center around romantic love, but the holiday is also a great time to celebrate other types of love, like the love we feel for our friends and family. A Valentine’s Day out with the kids is great fun for the whole family and is sure to create lasting memories. This year Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday and is followed by Presidents Day on Monday, making it the perfect time to enjoy a long weekend trip to Orlando with family. While you’re in town, enjoy some family bonding time with these sweet Valentine’s Day celebration ideas.

Celebrate with a Family Dinner at Cinderella’s Royal Table

Don your most regal apparel and head to Magic Kingdom to enjoy some fairytale fun. After you’ve explored the theme park, sit down to a delicious three course feast at Cinderella’s Royal Table, located inside her iconic castle. The menu is ideal for families. Grownups can enjoy starters and entrees such as charcuterie, beef tenderloin, and chickpea panisse while kids have their own menu with options they’ll love including cheddar cheese cubes and grapes, chicken nuggets, or mac and cheese. While you dine, Disney Princesses will visit your table to pose for photos and sign autographs. This restaurant is one of the most popular ones in Magic Kingdom, so make your reservations in advance.

Support Local Artists at Weekend of the Arts

If you and your family love art, you can take part in the third annual Weekend of the Arts, hosted by the City of Winter Park. Ideal for families with older children and teens, the Weekend of the Arts includes live music, performances, and exhibits. In addition to ticketed musicals and plays, last year’s event also included several free events including free admission to museums, concerts, and tours of historic neighborhoods. This year’s event takes place from February 14 – February 17, so you can enjoy it all weekend long.

Go On an Adventure Together at ICON Park

For an adventurous Valentine’s Day, spend the day at ICON Park on International Drive. This popular entertainment complex is home to The Wheel, a 400 foot tall observation wheel that provides birds eye views of Orlando. After your aerial tour of Orlando, snap some photos with the wax figures of celebrities at Madame Tussauds or marvel at some of the world’s most curious critters at the SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium and at Skeletons: Museum of Osteology. You can also brave the 7D Dark Ride Adventure or get your adrenaline pumping on the 450 foot tall Orlando StarFlyer.

Sample Exclusive Valentine’s Day Desserts at Disney Springs

Families with a sweet tooth can indulge in Valentine’s Day sweets at Disney Springs. Each year the many boutique bakeries, chocolatiers, and coffee houses at Disney Springs offer exclusive desserts on Valentine’s Day. In the past, these treats have included everything from chocolate-dipped strawberries and rose mousse to caramel pops and white mocha lattes. Last year there was even a Galentine’s cupcake available on February 13. While you are at Disney Springs, you can also enjoy a ride in an amphibious car, go bowling at Splitsville, or watch a family movie at the AMC Dine-In theater.
