June Movie Releases

Summer blockbuster movie release season is here, just in time for those hot Florida summers. A cool, air conditioned movie theater offers the perfect escape from the heat and a chance to enjoy some of your favorite characters. From superheroes to alien superspies to nostalgic animated features, there is plenty to look forward to on the silver screen this month.

Dark Phoenix

7 June 2019 | Not Yet Rated (Likely PG-13)

The X-Men film series is one of the longest running movie franchises, having released 11 movies total and grossing almost $6 billion globally. It’s a pretty safe bet that Dark Phoenix is going to continue the trend of successful mutant superhero movies as the franchise heads into its 20th year on the big screen.

Shaft

14 June 2019 | Not Yet Rated (Likely R)

2019 will mark the third time the series has been brought to theaters, originally appearing in 1971 and then again in 2000 before this 2019 edition. Richard Roundtree and Samuel L. Jackson, stars of the first two releases, return in this movie that brings the iconic black character to life for yet another generation of moviegoers.

Men in Black: International

14 June 2019 | Not Yet Rated (Likely PG-13 or R)

Something about Chris Hemsworth and fighting aliens seems to click on the big screen. Taking a step away from the Marvel Cinematic Universe for this one, the Thor series star teams up with Tessa Thompson, IMDb’s #3 Breakout Star of 2018, to don the iconic black suits and sunglasses most notably worn by Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones from 1997-2012.

Toy Story 4

21 June 2019 | Not Yet Rated (Likely PG)

Toy Story is one of Disney’s most iconic franchises, with a sort of all-ages appeal that makes it perfect for a family trip to the movies no matter how young or old the kids may be. This fourth installment in the series adds the voices of comedy duo Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele to the classic team of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen reprising their roles as Woody and Buzz Lightyear. Knowing Disney and the all-star cast, this movie doesn’t seem capable of being anything but a box office success.

Yesterday

28 June 2019 | PG-13

This upcoming dramedy has an interesting premise: nearly everyone alive knows who The Beatles are, but what if they didn’t? What if only one person remembered their songs and their history? Jack Malik, played by Himesh Patel (EastEnders), is that one person, and he just happens to be a struggling musician looking for his big break. It looks like he’s about to become a pretty big deal.
