The Ranch Rodeo & Cowboy Heritage Festival

Saddle up your horses, because the Annual Ranch Rodeo & Cowboy Heritage Festival is coming your way. From September 27-28, Kissimmee is hosting the Florida Cattlemen Association’s annual fundraiser to celebrate Florida’s rich ranching culture. The event takes place at the Silver Spurs Arena in Osceola Heritage Park. All proceeds raised from the event support local farmers, ranchers, and Florida’s cattle heritage. Tickets are $10 and children under 10 years old get in for free. Strap in for fun-filled, family-friendly weekend:

The Wild Statewide Ranch Rodeo Finals Competition

Cattlemen and cattlewomen working across regions compete for the title of Florida’s Best Ranch Rodeo Team. Only the top sixteen qualifying teams earn the right to compete in the prestigious Statewide Ranch Rodeo Finals. This is the most jaw dropping, crowd-pleasing, and exhilarating part of the entire weekend. Teams have to show their tenacity through these tournaments and many more:

  1. Bronc Riding A member from each team must last eight seconds on a bucking horse trying to throw him off while hanging on for dear life.
  2. Quick Step Calf Branding Four team members must brand a calf as quickly and accurately as possible (calf is not actually branded or harmed during competition).
  • Wild Cow Milking All team members must milk a wild and ravaging cow in the shortest time possible.

Cowboy Heritage Festival

The Cowboy Heritage Festival has free admission to celebrate ranching culture and timeless traditions. You can count on these festival activities:

  1. Working Florida Cow Dog Competition – Cow dogs heard, drive, and pursue cattle aggressively in the sweltering Florida heat.
  2. Whip Popping Contest – Watch local farmers and ranchers see whose whip is the strongest and loudest in all of Florida.
  • Kids Boot Scramble – Even your kids can participate in friendly competition. Kids place their shoes (or boots) on the other side of the arena. The first to run across the arena, put their shoes on, and run back to the other side wins!
  1. Exhibits and Entertainment- Travel back in time. Learn about the history of Florida cattle ranching and watch demonstrators create authentic cowboy gear right before your eyes. Also enjoy cowboy storytellers, fine art, live performances, and more.
